Job Description

We are excited to offer a 1 or 2 year, full time Fellowship in Emergency & Community Prehospital Emergency Medicine at University Hospital Wales (UHW), Cardiff. This programme is designed for energetic, enthusiastic doctors of ST3/ST4+ or equivalent level in Emergency Medicine who wish to develop their prehospital emergency medicine (PHEM) skills.

The successful candidate will work at the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) and on the Welsh Enhanced Care Response unit (WECRU), splitting their time equally between hospital and prehospital settings. They will be part of a well-staffed and supportive hospital team, joining 25 Consultants and 13 Registrars in Emergency Medicine.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a system dedicated to improving emergency care in the vibrant city of Cardiff. There are very few opportunities nationally for trainees to develop and gain first-hand experience in PHEM, making this a superb opportunity for those building on their PHEM portfolio for potential National PHEM selection.

As a valued member of our team, you will have access to quality improvement projects and governance initiatives, with oversight from our Consultant in PHEM. You will also benefit from working closely with colleagues across multiple disciplines, fostering a collaborative environment.

Requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Life Support provider status on ALS, APLS or ATLS/ETC
  • MRCEM

In addition to these essential qualifications, we welcome candidates with intercalated degrees, academic excellence, and instructor status in Life support Courses. Previous experience in specialties relevant to emergency medicine, including Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, paediatrics, intensive care, anaesthesia, and acute medicine, is also desirable.

Our ideal candidate will possess demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, enabling effective communication about medical and legal topics with patients and colleagues. Evidence of recent quality improvement projects or audit is highly valued.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of £60,000-£70,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a range of benefits, including pension scheme, annual leave, and professional development opportunities.
