Müller UK & Ireland is a leading dairy company with a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence. We are currently seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join our team at our Telford Yogurts & Desserts site.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our site's EHS plans, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and promoting a positive EHS culture. This will involve providing guidance to the business on legal health and safety compliance, supporting the development and delivery of best-class EHS solutions, and proactively managing the claims handling process.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management, with experience in developing and implementing EHS strategies, conducting risk assessments, and managing environmental permits. They will also have excellent communication and coaching skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and influence a team across all functions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing EHS strategies to improve standards in line with industry best practices
  • Supporting the risk assessment and safe systems of work and COSHH process throughout the site
  • Proactively managing the claims handling process
  • Maintaining and legal permits required by the site (e.g. Environmental permits)
  • Auditing the business' HSE MS as required and providing suitable and practical recommendations for improvement
  • Carrying out audits of statutory requirements with key stakeholders
  • Supporting the STAR system implementation and ongoing maintenance
  • Supporting managers in accident and near miss investigations, acting as SME
  • Developing and acting as the advisor on contractor systems, implementing all the relevant RCS and working with key stakeholders to agree the duty holders of the RCS, and ensuring the standards are suitably audited
  • Ensuring colleagues' compliance and awareness of their legal/company roles and responsibilities with respect to HSE
  • Coaching colleagues on audits, RA, STAR, investigations to ensure robust quality and timely delivery
  • Growing the capability of colleagues throughout the business in their specific HSE roles
  • Challenging and coaching all colleagues on unsafe acts, systems, and procedures
  • Actively developing, promoting, and improving the health and safety culture throughout the site
  • Developing high-level problem-solving capability and facilitation skills throughout the function
  • Creating high performance through PMS principles
  • Sponsoring Operational Excellence principles in everything that we do
  • Growing capability of themselves and colleagues on the site, by identifying continuous improvement through trending and PMS analysis
  • Liaising with external authorities (HSE/EA), insurers, and suppliers as necessary
  • Driving and facilitating cross-functional health and safety meetings as required to support colleagues in implementing performance improvements and to communicate HSE matters
  • Developing and implementing HSE plans to support the strategy and improve standards in health, safety, environment, and OH
  • Managing Environmental and safety-related costs at site level
  • Attending health, safety, and environment meetings
  • Actively reviewing and continually improving local HSE policies, standards, procedures, and practices
  • Supporting the creation and development of H&S/E projects and improvement plans
  • Managing the occupational health provision on site, leading the strategy for occupational health, and driving best-in-class provision in wellbeing
  • Owning through review and implementation the TACCP and BCP agenda for the local site, with a view of the network operation
  • Ensuring key health, safety, and environmental objectives are delivered on time
  • Creating purpose and direction around OGSM deliverables
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on accident statistics, KPIs, and developing and driving improvements in HSE performance data and in the benchmark index; maintaining standards and quality of the data
  • Ensuring own activities are aligned to overall business objectives and knowing how current performance impacts the bottom line

Key skills and experience required include:

  • Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent with 2+ years site HS&E Management experience
  • Member of IOSH
  • An environmental qualification such as AIEMA
  • H&S auditing/training qualification
  • Skills to identify, prepare, and deliver HSE-related training sessions
  • Experience of formal Safety and Environmental management systems (14 & 18001)
  • Experience of Environmental permits and Energy systems such as CCL
  • Strong problem-solving and implementation skills
  • Keeps up to date with commercial performance of business area and makes recommendations
  • Energetic and persistent when embracing change, relentless in finding new opportunities
  • Ability to provide practical risk control solutions
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coaching/mentoring skills
  • Self-motivated and committed
  • Must be proactive solutions-driven and be able to clearly demonstrate a track record of achievement in rapidly changing environments
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and influence a team across all functions
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving department
  • Good time management skills

  • Demonstrates leadership in all areas related to running the site, as a member of the senior team
