Senior Nurse Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional qualified nurse to join our pre-assessment team at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are optimized and prepared safely for surgery. This includes undertaking assessments on patients due for plastic, maxillofacial, and corneo-plastic surgery, supporting the anaesthetic and surgical teams, patients, and relatives, and liaising with external agencies to ensure pre-operative health promotion and optimal patient care.
The post holder will possess excellent communication skills, be confident, motivated, independent, and proactive in patient assessment, patient care, and decision-making skills. They will work autonomously and independently with exceptional time management, prioritizing referrals within the trust and primary care.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing patients for admission and reducing cancellations by successfully completing the assessment process, ordering preoperative investigations, and liaising with internal and external members of the multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking pre-operative assessments of all elective inpatient and day surgery admissions
- Ordering preoperative investigations and liaising with specialist teams to create and organize preoperative care management plans
- Declaring patients fit for surgery and making clinical decisions regarding referrals to the medical anaesthetic team
- Acting on abnormal results in a timely and effective manner to minimize any delays in treatment
- Providing health promotion advice and explanations to patients and their relatives
