Mechanical Design Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Specialist to join PWS Technical Services (UK) Ltd in Sheffield. Our company is a specialist consultant that provides bespoke service offerings and solutions to various industries, including civil, structural, mechanical engineering, aerospace, rail, defence, and nuclear.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery of innovative design packages in line with client key drivers, project programs, and budgets. This involves conducting initial project conceptual work, attending meetings, offering input into project submissions and presentations, and ensuring all projects are delivered on time and to program.
The role requires a broad range of detailed design accountabilities, including taking concept designs to produce fully detailed design packages and working design documents for multiple projects. You will also be responsible for junior engineers, reviewing and checking their work, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and in-house processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Taking concept designs to produce fully detailed design packages and working design documents for multiple projects.
- Conducting initial project conceptual work and surveys, attending meetings, and offering input into project submissions and presentations.
- Managing junior engineers, reviewing and checking their work, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and in-house processes.
- Awareness of cost implications within designs and ability to design systems in the form of calculations, equipment selection, and process operation.
- Liaising with external designers, clients, and in-house teams.
Requirements:
- Qualification at a tertiary level or (HNC / HND) in a relevant discipline or minimum 7 years experience in a similar role.
- Ability to deliver real working solutions that balance functionality, design integrity, manufacturability, serviceability, and costs.
- Proficiency in at least one CAD Design package such as CATIA, Solidworks, Inventor, or Fusion.
- Strong focus on building and maintaining client and supplier relationships.
- Strong organisational skills to manage spend profiles and timescales to support project goals in a dynamic environment.
