Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre for a committed, enthusiastic, and motivated Clinical Support Worker to work alongside our team on Ward 12.

You will be required to assist qualified nursing staff in providing direct patient care, to enable a seamless assessment process at front of house.

Main Duties of the Job

  1. To assist in admitting patients to the ward, completing demographic details, and recording baseline observations.
  2. To provide care to patients following instructions in the care plan, programme, or pathway.
  3. To demonstrate competence in the accurate recording of routine clinical observations.
  4. To recognise abnormal recordings or signs of change in a patient's condition and report changes to a registered nurse.
  5. To assess patients' level of dependence in meeting personal care needs and give appropriate assistance (includes hygiene, mobility, nutrition, elimination, and comfort).
  6. To assist patients to eat and drink in a sensitive and supportive manner.
  7. To accurately record information on patient food charts and fluid balance charts, reporting concerns to a registered nurse.
  8. To carry out clinical skills relevant to the ward/department and patient group (e.g. phlebotomy, ECG recording, simple dressings).
  9. To assist clinical teams with data entry, filing, and maintaining accurate documentation of care.
  10. To assist in escorting, transferring, and discharging patients, ensuring all property is packed and the bed area is prepared for the next patient.
  11. To ensure treatment rooms and ward areas are adequately stocked and tidy.
  12. To participate in clinical supervision.
  13. To assist in resolving conflict by responding to concerns and complaints in a positive manner.

Essential Criteria

  1. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
  2. Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems to update basic patient information from personal care and associated activity.
  3. Time-keeping, planning, and prioritisation skills.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  1. Must complete the care certificate within the 6 months probationary period and on-the-job training; instruction will be provided. This is an NHS entry-level requirement.

Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)
