About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team at a Primary School in Lewisham. The successful candidate will have a BSL Level 1 qualification or above and a genuine desire to empower Deaf children and help them thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the learning and educational progress of pupils with hearing impairments through small group and one-to-one interventions.
  • Collaborate with the Teacher of the Deaf and class teachers to promote inclusion and engagement in all learning experiences.
  • Use BSL to facilitate communication and ensure Deaf pupils can participate fully in the curriculum.
  • Foster independence in learning and encourage participation in various aspects of school life.
Requirements
  • BSL Level 1 qualification or above and experience of working within a primary school.
  • The ability and willingness to understand the needs of students from different social backgrounds, sensory impairments and special educational needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in addition to their BSL communication.
  • The ability to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with young people and adults.
  • Proven experience working with Deaf children or those with additional needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.

This is a term-time only position, Monday to Friday, with a temp-permanent contract. The salary is £84-£100 per day, depending on experience and qualifications. If you have a DBS, please apply. If not, Tempest Education can assist with the application process.
