Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Multi-skilled Operative to join our team. As a key member of our void works team, you will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, and wall tiling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake a variety of void works, including plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, and wall tiling.
  • Provide a high standard of workmanship, in line with our Voids Policy and relevant safety regulations.
  • Work collaboratively across teams, departments, and external partners to deliver the highest standards of service.
  • Identify and report potential hazards and take necessary actions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Use tablet and/or smartphone technology to receive and send emails, calendar appointments, documents, photographs, and reports.
  • Record and update completion of works on tablets and report back any follow-up additional works.
  • Work in accordance with our Health and Safety Professional Standards and SBC Safeguarding Policy.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post and needs of the business.
Requirements
  • Recognised trade qualification in a core subject (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, plastering, bricklaying) and/or evident trade skills with time-served experience.
  • Full current driving license and ability to drive a company vehicle, complying with our Vehicle Policy.
  • Good IT skills and ability to use tablets and other SBC-supplied devices for receiving jobs, emails, etc.
  • Ability to submit presentable and accurate paperwork as per requirements of the works carried out.
  • Flexible and works collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow processes and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations and relevant legislation related to the role.
  • Experience in working under own initiative, prioritizing workloads, working to deadlines, and planning ahead.
  • Able to make sound judgments, find solutions to complex issues and problems, and identify and manage risk.
Desirable Qualifications
  • City & Guilds, Level 3 NVQ qualification in a core subject (e.g., carpentry, plastering, plumbing) or equivalent evident trade skills with time-served experience.
  • Modern apprenticeship, form of craft apprentice, or similar.
  • Qualifications or certification in Health and Safety (e.g., Construction Skills Certification Scheme, Health and Safety Passport Scheme).
Working Environment

As a Multi-skilled Operative, you will work in a variety of settings, including void properties, occupied homes, and external locations. You will be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a range of weather conditions.
