Job Overview

The registrar will work independently in the Acute Geriatric ward in Stoke Mandeville hospital, reviewing acutely unwell frail older patients and common problems they present with. This includes falls, confusion, decreased mobility, and weight loss. The registrar will perform a comprehensive geriatric assessment and develop ambulatory management plans for admission-avoidance cases, working with other community services.

Main Duties of the Job

The registrar will conduct daily ward rounds for inpatients, primarily in the Elderly Care ward, with junior teams and consultant supervision. They will also review frail older patients in the MUDAS system, preventing admissions and working as part of a multidisciplinary team for older people.

Person Specification

Education

Essential Criteria

  • UK GMC Registration with License to Practice.
  • Full MRCP.
  • ALS Certificate in date.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to demonstrate broad clinical skills in the management of all patients.
  • 24 months general professional training experience at SHO level in general and acute medicine.
  • Experience working at IMT3 or ST3 level.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to discuss treatment options with patients and carers in a way they understand.
