About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Observability Engineering Manager to lead our team in developing and implementing cutting-edge observability solutions. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for driving the development of our Logging, Monitoring, and Alerting elements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a distributed team of engineers in the development of observability solutions
  • Organize and lead the team's processes to achieve objectives
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members to discuss progress and goals
  • Identify and measure team health indicators to ensure high performance
  • Interact with a vibrant community of developers and engineers
  • Review code produced by other engineers to ensure high quality
  • Represent Canonical and our Observability Stack at conferences and events
Requirements
  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
  • Proven track record of professional experience in software delivery
  • Professional Python development experience, preferably with a track record in open source
  • Proven understanding of the importance of observability and monitoring for keeping software running smoothly
  • Experience designing and implementing observability solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
Preferred Skills
  • Engineering management experience
  • Working knowledge of Go
  • Open source contribution experience
  • Interest and experience with container technologies
