Veterinary Surgeon

Job Purpose:
We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Surgeon to join our team in Berkshire. As a Veterinary Surgeon, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical and surgical care for small animals, ensuring that treatment aligns with the standards set by the RCVS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform consultations, diagnose, and treat a variety of animals.
- Carry out surgical operations, including neutering and general procedures.
- Provide emergency and out-of-hours cover on a rotating basis.
- Keep accurate clinical notes and regularly update clients regarding treatment plans and test results.
- Ensure punctuality, professional conduct, and adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Promote practice services such as nurse clinics and special offers to clients where appropriate.
- Supervise and provide guidance to support staff, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, and the public.
- Provide detailed estimates to manage client expectations and keep them informed of costs.
- Commit to continuous professional development in line with RCVS guidelines.
- Handle occasional duties at the discretion of the Practice Manager or Principal.
Hours of Work:
- 4 days per week with one full day off each week, unless following a weekend shift.
- Standard working hours: 8:30 am - 5:30/6:30 pm, depending on the rota.
- One late shift per week (on call until 9:00 pm) with a 1:00 pm start time.
- Shared weekend rota (1 full weekend in 5) with consultations on Saturday and Sunday mornings and on-call until 5:00 pm.
- The following Monday and Friday off after a weekend on duty.
Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence and own car insured for business use.
- Must live within an agreed commuting distance from the practice.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
- Post-qualification experience in small animal practice is essential.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong organisation and time management skills.
- Confident in working under pressure and independently.
- Passionate about delivering exceptional client care.
- A team player with a positive attitude.
