About the Role

Network Rail is expanding its in-house ecology expertise and has a fantastic new opportunity available on the Wales Route. We are recruiting for an experienced ecologist to provide support and become part of a wider dedicated and hardworking team at Network Rail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake and complete a range of ecological field surveys, including protected species surveys and extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys.
  • Collate, write up and review survey results and mapping target notes and review to identify appropriate recommendations.
  • Manage the implementation and embedding of recommendations to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Undertake and complete environmental impact assessments.
  • Lead the development of appropriate mitigation strategies, utilising results of surveys and liaising with Environmental Specialist's and the Arboriculture team.
  • Analyse and interpret data, using specialist software programs. Produce periodic and ad hoc reports to a high technical standard within prescribed timescales.
  • Provide specialist ecological advice and guidance to site managers, engineers, planners, and others associated with the undertaking and completion of surveys and / or assessments.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including statutory bodies, local authorities, and members of the public.
  • Assist in the production of environmental appraisal reports.
  • Carry out research as required.
Requirements
  • Experience working within the field of ecology, with extensive relevant work experience.
  • Experience of leading and/or independently undertaking extended phase 1 habitat surveys and at least 2 years' experience of providing supervision of works in the role of project ecologist, and/or ECoW.
  • A relevant undergraduate degree in Ecology, Zoology, Biological Sciences, or other relevant Environmental Sciences.
  • A good understanding of UK and European wildlife legislation and experience in the application of best practice guidance.
  • Have experience of standard ecological survey protocols and methodologies.
  • Ability to complete protected species surveys.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organisation skills.
  • Task orientated team player.
  • Strong report writing skills, including experience of writing method statements and survey reports.
  • Full UK driving licence.
What Could Set You Apart
  • A relevant master's degree in Ecology or other relevant discipline.
  • Protected species survey licences, e.g. dormice, bats, great crested newts.
  • Knowledge of operational railway environment and PTS qualified.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Experience attending client meetings and working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and GIS.
  • Experience of project management and/or coordination of project work.
  • Botanical skills to a Level 4 FISC - BSBI (or working towards).

Cynnal a chwblhau ystod o arolygon maes Ecolegol, gan gynnwys arolygon rhywogaethau a warchodir ac Arolygon Cynefin Cam 1 estynedig.
Coladu, ysgrifennu ac adolygu canlyniadau arolygon a mapio nodiadau targed ac adolygu i nodi argymhellion priodol.
Rheoli'r broses o weithredu a gwreiddio argymhellion i sicrhau gwelliant parhaus.
Cynnal a chwblhau asesiadau effaith amgylcheddol.
Arwain datblygiad strategaethau lliniaru priodol, gan ddefnyddio canlyniadau arolygon a chysylltu ag Arbenigwyr Amgylcheddol a'r tîm Coedyddiaeth.
Dadansoddi a dehongli data, gan ddefnyddio rhaglenni meddalwedd arbenigol. Cynhyrchu adroddiadau cyfnodol ac ad hoc i safon dechnegol uchel o fewn terfynau amser penodedig.
Darparu cyngor ac arweiniad ecolegol arbenigol i reolwyr safle, peirianwyr, cynllunwyr, ac eraill sy'n gysylltiedig â chynnal a chwblhau arolygon a / neu asesiadau.
Datblygu a chynnal perthnasoedd gwaith effeithiol gyda rhanddeiliaid mewnol ac allanol allweddol, gan gynnwys cyrff statudol, awdurdodau lleol, ac aelodau'r cyhoedd.
Cynorthwyo i gynhyrchu adroddiadau gwerthuso amgylcheddol.
Cynnal ymchwil yn ôl yr angen.
Profiad o weithio ym maes ecoleg, gyda phrofiad gwaith perthnasol helaeth.
