The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) seeks a highly qualified Senior Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations to oversee all aspects of human resources, labor relations, and personnel policies for the organization.

Job Overview:

This critical role will involve managing the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, discipline, professional support, compensation, and benefits for approximately 300 staff members based in AFSC offices across the United States and worldwide. Additionally, the successful candidate will lead contract negotiations with unions, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.

  • Lead and manage the Human Resources Department, overseeing projects, processes, and work plans.
  • Collaborate with the Board Governance Committee to develop personnel policies aligned with AFSC's mission.
  • Implement and communicate personnel policies and standards to promote a positive work environment.
  • Implement inclusion and diversity goals outlined in the Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Facilitate staff performance reviews and address employee relations concerns.
  • Prepare an annual report on Human Resources and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion metrics for the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as an active member of senior management, providing expertise to the General Secretary and the organizational leadership.
  • Ensure consistency between overseas staff programs and AFSC's Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other administrative departments on HR-related postings and organization-wide benefit cost analysis.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on leadership roles. They will possess strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and compliance regulations relevant to the non-profit sector. Additionally, they will be familiar with compensation and benefits administration, including an understanding of non-profit compensation structures.

Requirements:

The following qualifications are essential for this position:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and compliance regulations relevant to the non-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with compensation and benefits administration, including an understanding of non-profit compensation structures.
  • Expertise in employee relations, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Prior experience in labor/management relations within a union context.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and experience with HRIS reporting systems for statistical reporting and strategic planning in HR.
