Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford Nanopore Technologies Full time

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is a leading company in the field of nanopore sequencing technologies. Headquartered at the Oxford Science Park, our team of experts works tirelessly to develop innovative solutions for the improvement and performance of biological components contained within our sample preparation kits and flowcells.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Development Scientist to join our Biologics Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading projects that involve the design, purification, and analysis of key protein components that form the backbone of RNA and DNA sequencing chemistries.

The role involves project and people management skills, as well as pushing the progress of projects forward and guiding the experiments and development of junior scientists. Designing appropriate experiments and independent analysis of complex and novel datasets to reach meaningful conclusions is also a crucial aspect of this role.

Key responsibilities include implementation of high-throughput testing regimes for the efficient analysis of high numbers of protein variants, competency with Python, R, or command line programming for data science, and robust and thorough data analysis of any conducted experiments and accurate reporting to the wider team and division.

As a senior member of our team, you will also be responsible for guidance of junior lab members and leading protein engineering projects from conception to conclusion. A strong understanding of protein expression and purification at lab scale is essential, as well as the ability to prioritize and critically evaluate tasks.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field, ideally with 1 year or more post-doctoral experience either in an academic or industrial setting, or a BSc/MSc with 6+ years industrial experience with a proven track record for project success.

In return for your expertise and hard work, we offer an attractive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, generous pension contributions, private healthcare, and an excellent working environment based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings. Our company values diversity and inclusivity, and we welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
