Postdoctoral Research Associate

The University of Edinburgh's School of Physics and Astronomy is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team in detector development and research. As a key member of our group, you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced detectors for future particle physics experiments.
We are well-integrated in the ECFA detector R&D collaborations and have a strong focus on detector R&D and construction. Our Advanced Detector Development Centre has state-of-the-art facilities, including a 55 m2 ISO-7 clean room, which will provide you with the ideal environment to conduct your research.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct high-quality research in particle physics detector instrumentation, with a focus on charged particle detection and photon detection.
- Develop and lead automated pixel module and service qualification control procedures for the ATLAS ITk Pixel EndCap construction.
- Work on novel detector R&D and prototyping for the LHCb upgrade II and related DRD activities, including the HV-CMOS silicon pixel detector and fast photon detector.
- Collaborate with partners, including students and staff from other universities and non-academic stakeholders.
- PhD or equivalent qualification in Experimental Particle Physics, electronic engineering, or a related field.
- Experience and keen interest in performing high-quality research in particle physics detector instrumentation.
- Good working knowledge of C++ and/or Python programming languages.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently, as well as work as part of a team.
This is a full-time position (35 hours per week), with the possibility of part-time or flexible working patterns. The post is fixed-term for 3 years. We are committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
