Position Overview: The Senior Family Services Coordinator operates at an advanced level within the Family Services classification. In this role, you will manage intricate program areas and assume significant responsibilities, including the investigation of suspected cases of child or adult maltreatment, overseeing out-of-home placements, guardianships, emergency protective orders, and adoption processes. You will also play a crucial role in legal proceedings, providing testimony and facilitating the placement of children into foster or adoptive families. Furthermore, you will have the chance to influence outcomes by engaging in task forces, strategic initiatives, mentoring, educational efforts, and outreach in domains such as Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoption Services. Additional responsibilities may include aspects related to Child Care and Employment Services.
Key Duties:
- Oversees, coordinates, and administers specific assigned programs
- Facilitates services within the designated area of responsibility
- Develops service plans and presents cases to determine suitable services
- Monitors expenditures, prepares and submits budget proposals, and ensures timely payment for services rendered
- Manages program waiting lists effectively
- Provides case management services to ensure adherence to compliance standards
- Educates and trains foster parents while submitting progress reports to the judicial system
- Connects families with treatment resources available in the community
- Transports children to various appointments and visitations as needed
- Participates in court proceedings, providing testimony and coordinating cases with legal representatives
- Offers parent education and support services to families
- Conducts intensive in-home counseling and prepares comprehensive reports
- Interviews and evaluates clients, assigning them to appropriate support groups
- Acts as a resource for clients and the broader community
- Provides after-hours on-call support and responds to emergencies
- Conducts investigative duties and assesses risks to children
- Creates written service plans, documenting goals and objectives
- Administers programs and manages caseloads efficiently
- Conducts visits and maintains regular contact with professionals
- Accompanies victims and families during court appearances
- Establishes and maintains comprehensive case records
- Codes, enters, and updates cases in the state’s computer system
- Represents the agency at various functions and provides training and workshops
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline
- At least two years of relevant experience in Human Services
- Substantial experience in the designated program area
- Completion of mandatory training programs or equivalent qualifications
- Preferred: BSW or MSW degree and a Social Worker license from the Commonwealth of Virginia
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge: Understanding of social work principles, human behavior, investigative techniques, and applicable laws and regulations
Skills: Proficient in using personal computers, software applications, and operating a motor vehicle
Abilities: Excellent communication, counseling, investigative, and organizational skills. Ability to analyze information, respond effectively to emotional situations, and adapt to high-pressure environments while maintaining professionalism.
