Horsham District Council is seeking a skilled Drainage Officer to tackle the challenges posed by increased flooding due to climate change. As part of the Sustainability and Greenspaces department, the successful candidate will work closely with the Parks and Countryside team to inspect watercourses on Council-owned land and identify remedial measures to address drainage issues. This role involves ensuring the Council meets its duties regarding Warnham Mill Reservoir, a vital site for nature conservation that requires careful long-term management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing technical drainage advice on planning applications to ensure high environmental standards are met
- Developing and implementing solutions to drainage and flooding issues, including Natural Flood Management and Sustainable Urban Drainage
- Collaborating with internal and external partners to achieve shared goals
- Managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks effectively
Requirements:
- Relevant degree in a related field and technical knowledge of non-engineering solutions to drainage and flooding issues
- Good communication skills and ability to explain complex issues to diverse audiences
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Full driver's license and access to a vehicle
