Role Overview

The Garment Technologist will be responsible for implementing the technical strategy for the OURS range of products for Outerwear, Tailored jackets & Bottoms, working closely with the technical and buying teams to deliver product consistent with the company's desired fit and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fitting all products to ensure buyers' briefs are met.
  • Writing fit comments for suppliers and acting as the technical liaison.
  • Approving graded size charts.
  • Ensuring consistent fit across the range.
  • Assisting in the management and development of the basic block library.
  • Approving care labelling and testing requirements, as well as communication decisions to suppliers.
  • Organizing and coordinating wearer trials.
  • Ensuring suppliers adhere to supplier compliance, challenging and managing underperformance where necessary.
  • Actively participating in monitoring all returns and customer feedback.
  • Reading and advising on test reports, and advising on the suitability of fabrics.
  • Visiting suppliers regularly to comment on their capability to meet requirements.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the supplier manual.
  • Visiting stores and working closely with retail colleagues.
  • Overseeing critical path management from the technical department with the buying team.
  • Staying informed about relevant product safety, legislation and standards to ensure products comply with these through product evaluation and risk assessment.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification at degree or equivalent level.
  • Experience of the manufacturing environment, preferably within garment technology, pattern cutting, grading and product development.
  • In-depth understanding of different fabric shapes and fits, i.e. jersey, wovens etc.
  • Adequate experience in either a retailer or supplier, ideally a minimum of 3 years' experience at a similar level.
  • Experience of working within a multiple brand retailer preferable.
  • Ability to convey technical detail clearly to a layman.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft and Excel.
  • Exceptional communication, organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • Effective communicator, presenter and team player.
  • Ability to adopt a flexible approach when required, and to think swiftly.
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills.
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment, and able to prioritise projects.
  • Proactive and keen to take on new tasks.
