Senior Building Surveyor Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor with strong ambition and a passion for collaborative teamwork to progress their career. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing client relationships and a specific interest in project management.

As a Senior Project Manager/Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for delivering multi-disciplinary projects from concept to construction, working on our expanding portfolio of challenging projects across various market sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver projects to agreed targets, including programme, budget, and quality.
  • Identify and agree project objectives with the Project Director and develop a strategy for achieving these.
  • Escalate and manage potential contractual/commercial risks to the Project Director at the earliest opportunity.
  • Utilize commercial manager support to understand contractual obligations and negotiate amendments.
  • Set objectives, delegate tasks, and agree risk sharing with the project team.
  • Actively manage the project, technically and financially, in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Lead the project team, building motivation, maintaining, coaching, guiding, and developing team members.
  • Assemble and own the project delivery programme and delivery plans.

Closing out the project on completion, archiving project documentation, updating market information, and ensuring lessons learned are captured and disseminated internally.

Requirements:
  • Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent with experience managing design commissions on large building/infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities.
  • Understanding and experience in deploying various forms of construction contract, particularly NEC3 and JCT.
  • Experience in preparing Scope Definition papers, Project Execution Plans, Risk Registers, Change Control Logs, and Client & Stakeholder Management plans.
  • Familiarity with BIM and 3D modelling tools for design and coordination purposes.
  • Customer-focused with excellent client relationship management skills.
  • A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced team members.
  • Availability to travel across the UK and work away from home, with a valid UK driving licence.
