About the Role: We are seeking a skilled Freight and Commodities Market Analyst to join our analytics team. This role requires a passion for analysis, content creation, and storytelling to inform participants in complex and volatile trading domains. Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate and Promote Weekly Reports: Produce detailed reports on commodity and freight markets, ensuring high-quality insights and actively promoting them to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ad-hoc Analysis and Industry Commentary: Write and promote timely, ad-hoc pieces responding to industry news, trends, or client needs, placing content in top industry media outlets.
  • Hands-on Data Work and Quality Assurance: Engage directly with Signal data, refining it to ensure client-readiness and driving reports. Lead efforts to improve the data productization process.
  • Data Scouting and Collection: Scout, collect, and integrate data from external sources to complement existing datasets and drive comprehensive analysis.
  • Client Consultations and Event Speaking: Provide consultative analytics and reporting to clients, representing Signal as a thought leader by speaking at relevant industry events.
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets globally to ensure broad coverage and placement of Signal's market insights.
  • Internal Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as an internal expert on commodities, providing feedback to product teams to shape features meeting client needs and market demands.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics or engineering from a top-tier university.
  • More than 2 years of experience as an analyst or consulting role.
  • Strong motivation to understand market developments and trends.
  • SQL knowledge.
  • Strong logical and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with large, disparate, and/or unstructured data sets.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Python is a plus, but not a prerequisite.
  • Detailed knowledge of data analysis methods.
  • Strong English knowledge (both written and spoken).
  • Prior experience in the commodities industry is a plus.
