Senior Health Play Specialist

We are seeking a qualified and registered Senior Health Play Specialist to join our Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service within the Acute Child Health Directorate at the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience working in an Acute Hospital setting or community setting, with a strong understanding of the Society of Health Play Specialists (SoHPS) Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Standards.
The role involves providing an accessible and inclusive service to meet the needs of patients accessing the Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service, utilising a range of clinical skills and experience to assess patient need and provide appropriate prioritization of therapeutic play preparation, distraction, and emotional support.
The ideal candidate will have leadership skills, with the ability to reflect on their own practice and support the reflection of others, as well as the ability to provide appropriate supervision and feedback to enhance the development of others.
The successful candidate will be able to work closely with the Play Services Manager and deputise in their absence, supporting the standard operation of the Play Service and the optimization of care pathways and improvement of patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide an accessible and inclusive service to meet the needs of patients accessing the Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service
- Utilise a range of clinical skills and experience to assess patient need and provide appropriate prioritization of therapeutic play preparation, distraction, and emotional support
- Work closely with the Play Services Manager and deputise in their absence
- Support the standard operation of the Play Service and the optimization of care pathways and improvement of patient experience
Requirements
- HPSET Qualified and registered with 2 years experience working in an Acute Hospital setting or community setting
- Knowledge and understanding of the SoHPS Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Standards
- Leadership skills, with the ability to reflect on own practice and support the reflection of others
- Ability to provide appropriate supervision and feedback to enhance the development of others
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ, CACHE, NNEB (Level 3) in Child Care/Play Work or Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce or Early Childhood Studies (BA)
- Basic Secondary Education up to 5 GCSE level or beyond, including English and Math's (GCSE Grade A* - C)
- Management and Leadership qualification/training/modules
- Mentoring/coaching training
- Communication training, MAKATON, BSL, SIGN ALONG, Touch cues etc.
Desirable Experience
- Substantial post-qualifying experience of working with BCYP in a healthcare setting, in a variety of clinical areas and/or vast experience in a specialised field, including individual and group work
- Knowledge and awareness of the emotional and personal impact of the work and the ability to self-manage or seek help appropriately
- Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
