Are you passionate about science and the environment? We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Scientist to join our Science team at Hinkley Point C.

You will be responsible for ensuring final effluent quality is compliant with regulatory standards by monitoring performance. You will work proactively and collaboratively to develop measures to address current and future risks. As a Lead Scientist, you will manage two Scientific Analysts and two Environmental Samplers.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing technical support to wastewater sites and Water Management Zones, including the operation of processes such as sludge, wastewater, groundwater, surface water, and R&D.
  2. Preparing and attending Water Management Committee meetings.
  3. Optimizing site processes, such as chemical dosing, sludge dewatering, power consumption, etc.
  4. Engaging with operations teams, contractors, and other scientists to build rapport and improve technical understanding through mentoring and coaching.
  5. Leading the Science Team, including pre-start briefs, toolbox talks, safety messages, team training, and team bonus scores.
  6. Conducting monthly environmental inspections.
  7. Accountable for meeting Science Team monthly KPIs.
  8. Collating and storing data reports, service/maintenance records, and calibration documents.
  9. Writing reports for submission to the Client.
  10. Organizing sampling and monitoring programs, responding to incidents and emergencies on site.
  11. Issuing and managing permits to discharge system alongside the Scientific Analysts for contractors across the site.
  12. Liaising with laboratories for various testing of water, sewage, and bacteria.
  13. Managing COSHH chemicals and HAJ Laboratory, undertaking chemical dosing trials and jar testing.
