Job Summary

As a Design Manager at Story Contracting, you will be responsible for leading and managing the design process and team in accordance with Network Rail and regulatory standards. Your goal will be to maximize efficiencies with external design consultants and introduce innovation and value-engineered solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, predominantly Network Rail Asset Management Teams.
  • Integrate the Safe by Design approach into the design management process.
  • Lead and manage the design process to deliver cost-effective, buildable, and considered solutions, working in unison with project management teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Allocate consultants tactically based on experience, capacity, and skill set, and manage delivery to agreed program, quality, and cost.
  • Continuously improve through design lessons learned and sharing best practice and lessons both internally and externally.
  • Identify future people capability and capacity requirements to deliver a growing business plan.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualified to degree level, HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering.

Chartered Engineer in a relevant discipline (desirable).

Experience working as CRE or CEM (desirable).

Robust knowledge of design disciplines and practices.

Experience of working within the rail and/or construction industry.

Extensive experience of working with and driving a high level of engineering principles.

Good working knowledge of H&S regulations and legislation.

Good understanding of Network Rail specifications, standards, and procedures.

Strong commercial acumen.

Excellent communication skills.

Excellent influencing skills.

Experience of managing and leading a team.
