Sportswear Design Specialist

u&i Search is partnering with a leading brand renowned for its lingerie, swimwear, and increasingly popular sportswear collections. They are seeking a passionate and dedicated Technical Designer - Ladies Sportswear to join their dynamic Design team.

As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future direction of their sportswear line. Your expertise in technical design, combined with your understanding of current trends and innovative materials, will be instrumental in creating high-performance, stylish garments that resonate with their target audience.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Director to develop seasonal trend packages, encompassing mood boards, color palettes, and illustrations, setting the creative vision for the brand.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry advancements by attending trade shows and researching the latest technologies and trends from suppliers.
  • Forge strong relationships with suppliers to guide design direction and collaborate on the development of exclusive fabrics, components, and prints.
  • Lead the conceptual development of innovative and trend-setting product lines, guiding them from initial CAD designs through to finished samples.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Technical team throughout the fit process, ensuring that design integrity is maintained while considering performance requirements. Effectively communicate any necessary adjustments to the wider team.
  • Leverage your industry knowledge to source and develop fabrics, trims, and prints that align with the brand's aesthetic and feel. Identify potential cost and minimum order quantity issues that may impact margins and production levels.
  • Build and nurture professional relationships with suppliers, communicating clearly and effectively. Negotiate strategically to meet required price points.
  • Create detailed technical drawings, construction details, and development packs for each garment.
  • Develop comprehensive bill of materials and other relevant costing information for factories, ensuring proposed products adhere to agreed-upon price points and achieve target margins.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize workload in accordance with the Design Calendar and Business Critical Path.
  • Contribute to the company's sustainability initiatives by sourcing sustainable materials whenever possible.
  • Proactively address any technical issues that arise during the production process. Conduct thorough risk assessments for each style, collaborating with garment and fabric tech teams to ensure all styles are suitable for production.
  • Conduct performance sports testing for both new and existing styles.
