You will:

  • Work closely with the Economics of Pandemic Preparedness (EPPI) team to integrate behavioural insights into mathematical infectious diseases transmission models, for example via micro-economic utility models.
  • Model the cost and benefits of behavioural interventions to contain infections and reduce economic and educational losses, and the return-on-investment to pandemic preparedness.
  • Analyse the drivers of economic and health behaviours during pandemics.

  • Work closely with the EPPI team to project the societal costs of past and potential future pandemics, considering behavioural insights.
  • Work closely with the EPPI team to advise on the return-on-investment to pandemic preparedness, and support outbreak response with behavioural insights.

The successful candidate is expected to advance this exciting field, working on the intersection between infectious disease modelling and economics to improve the integration of behavioural-economic and epidemiological modelling of emerging infectious diseases. You will collaborate extensively with the School of Public Health at Imperial College London, bringing together academics and research staff from different disciplines to work on this innovative project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop theoretical micro-economic models to inform public health decisions.
  • Conduct advanced mathematical modelling of infectious disease transmission.
  • Collaborate with the EPPI team to project the societal costs of pandemics.
  • Support the design and evaluation of behaviour interventions.

Requirements:

  • Strong conceptual/theoretical knowledge and skills in micro-economic modelling.
  • Passion and aptitude to model and develop the theory of individual behaviour during pandemics.

  • Initiative and independence in research conceptualization and implementation.
  • Willingness and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to contribute to the overall objectives and remits of EPPI.
  • Ability to communicate to a variety of audiences, including EPPI's partners from multilateral agencies.
