Automation Technician

At Thames Water, we are currently seeking a skilled Automation Technician to join our team. This role is based out of our Mill Green Sewage Treatment Works Site in Hertfordshire.
The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team, alongside various operational teams such as systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians.
- The key responsibilities of this position include installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards, as well as diagnosing and repairing faults in systems and plants.
- This role also involves proactively identifying and reporting follow-up work or areas for enhancement, and delivering cost-effective improvements to assets and systems.
In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for investigating plant failures and implementing subsequent repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible.
This is a 38-hour-per-week Monday-to-Friday position, with an additional standby rota for which you will receive extra payment. All necessary PPE, tools, and vans will be provided.
Key Requirements:
- Experience with PLCs and SCADA systems, as well as communication network systems, instrumentation including flow, level, pressure etc.
- Ideal qualifications include HNC level or City and Guilds Part 2 or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an instrumentation, control, and automation discipline.
- Preferably, you will hold the 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification and have knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems.
- You should also possess physical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces, along with successful completion of the appropriate training.

- A competitive salary up to £45,500 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
