Digital Law Specialist

We're seeking a Digital Law Specialist to join our small, supportive legal team at the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). As a key member of our digital, cyber, and technology team, you'll provide vital support to our operations and capability development activity.

As a Digital Law Specialist, you'll work closely with our operational and capability teams, building effective relationships and liaising with colleagues in other government departments. You'll advise on new and developing digital 'information use' and operational capabilities, and also advise on the development of new technologies for use in operations.

This is a fascinating role where you'll represent MI6 legal advisers within and outside the organisation alongside senior stakeholders. You may also be asked to advise on handling litigation brought against the UK Government which affects MI6, such as challenges in the Investigatory Powers Tribunal and judicial reviews.

You'll have responsibility for a varied, interesting and challenging portfolio of work, as MI6 continues its process of digital transformation, revolutionising the way it uses data and technology to achieve its mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on digital, cyber, and technology matters, including advising on new and developing digital 'information use' and operational capabilities.
  • Advise on the development of new technologies for use in operations.
  • Represent MI6 legal advisers within and outside the organisation alongside senior stakeholders.
  • Advise on handling litigation brought against the UK Government which affects MI6.

Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer (solicitor, barrister or legal executive) fully qualified to practice in England and Wales.
  • Experience of effective delivery in areas of law relevant to the advertised role.
  • Approximately 5 years or more of PQE.
