Job Title: Senior Mechanical Cost Estimator

Location: London

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our team at LJB & Co. As a respected partner of leading contractors, we deliver high-quality projects across various industries, focusing on quality, safety, and sustainability.

Salary: Up to £85,000 + Benefits

About the Job:

This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project specifications, and supporting the bidding process to ensure profitability and competitiveness. The ideal candidate should have expertise in mechanical systems, market conditions, and pricing strategies, with occasional site visits required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical installation projects by examining project plans, specifications, and documentation.
  • Lead and manage the preparation of competitive bid proposals, ensuring all necessary documents are included.
  • Verify bids from subcontractors and suppliers to guarantee adherence to project requirements and budgets.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to gather information and ensure alignment on project requirements.
  • Organize pre-bid meetings and site visits to understand project conditions and constraints.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and develop reliable solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering in mechanical estimates.
  • Produce regular reports for senior management and stakeholders on estimating activities and outcomes.
  • Deliver training and mentorship to junior estimators and team members on mechanical estimating practices, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
  • Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to prepare and manage cost estimates.

Requirements:

  • Degree/qualifications in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering or related field.
  • Substantial experience in a similar role within the construction industry, preferably in the water industry.
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical systems, materials, labor, and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret contract conditions and specifications commonly used in the water industry.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable in estimating software and tools.
