Job Title: Road Maintenance Worker

Blue Arrow is seeking a skilled Road Maintenance Worker to join their team in Inverness. As a key member of the Community Works team, you will be responsible for carrying out various tasks related to road maintenance, including winter maintenance, grounds maintenance, and street cleaning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out general road maintenance, including winter maintenance, to ensure the safety and accessibility of roads and footpaths.
  • Operate powered hand tools, minor plant, and machinery to perform tasks such as de-littering, street cleaning, and excavation.
  • Comply with requirements for signing, lighting, and guarding of roadworks to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Apply bitumous materials, including slurry seal, to footpaths, bitmac macadam, and asphalt materials to roads and footpaths.
  • Construct and maintain footpaths, including kerb laying, block paving, and the setting and installation of ironworks.
  • Excavate and backfill trenches for pipe culverts and drainage pipelines.
  • Work accurately and safely, using equipment and tools to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Assist higher-graded operatives in their work and undertake duties connected with other Community Works activities.
  • Work in all weather conditions and maintain a flexible working attitude.
Essential Attributes:
  • Awareness of Health & Safety within a working environment.
  • Experience in the construction of roads, bridges, and drainage works.
  • Skills in laying hot bitumens, kerb laying, and laying drainage pipes.
  • Accuracy in the use of powered tools, such as compressors and jack hammers.
  • A driving license is essential.
  • Ability to work well within a team and work alone.
  • Flexible working attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work in difficult environments, such as outdoor working or exposed to disagreeable substances/materials.
  • Evidence of a good health record, as considerable physical effort is required for lifting and carrying on a regular basis.
