About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Market Risk Analyst to join our team at Goldman Sachs. As a Market Risk Analyst, you will play a critical role in identifying, measuring, and mitigating market risks that the firm faces in serving clients and operating its global businesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ongoing review of risk measures (Value-at-Risk, Greeks, stress tests) and interact with first-line risk takers to ensure effective risk management.
  • Evaluate risk-taking behavior and influence outcomes through portfolio and transaction-level risk analysis, taking into consideration risk appetite.
  • Collaborate with Risk Engineering colleagues on the development of new risk measures and stress tests, as well as improvements to existing measures.
  • Proactively identify emerging risks, such as basis risks and crowded trades.
  • Set limits and thresholds to manage risk exposure.
  • Connect macroeconomic events and political developments to potential vulnerabilities.
  • Disseminate information and educate stakeholders through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Communicate with senior management and regulators to ensure alignment with firm-wide risk management strategies.
Requirements
  • 1-5 years of experience in market risk management or a similar role with transferable skills.
  • Strong academic record with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Mathematics, or a related quantitative/analytical discipline.
  • Understanding of financial products, including their risk-reward tradeoffs.
  • Knowledge of market risk measures, concepts, and regulatory rules, including Value-at-Risk, stress testing, Greeks, and the Volcker Rule.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg, and Refinitiv Eikon, with the ability to learn in-house systems.
  • Ability to code and analyze complex data.
  • Proven problem-solving ability and control mindset.
  • Able to analyze and challenge risk-taking activities while engaging effectively with first-line risk takers.
  • Desire and ability to collaborate with people from different departments and levels of seniority.
  • Ability to communicate complex information and concepts in layperson terms directly with senior management.
