About the Role:
We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Laboratory Assistant to support the science department in a dynamic secondary school in Merseyside. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for science, who enjoys working in a school environment and has experience with laboratory equipment and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and materials for science lessons, including experiments and demonstrations.
- Support science teachers during practical lessons by ensuring students have the necessary equipment and resources.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, ensuring all apparatus is in good working condition.
- Manage and monitor stock levels of chemicals and scientific materials, ordering new supplies as needed.
- Ensure that health and safety standards are met in the science labs, conducting regular risk assessments and enforcing safe working practices.
- Dispose of chemical and biological waste safely and in accordance with regulations.
- Assist with the preparation and storage of chemicals, ensuring proper labelling and safe handling.
- Provide general support to the science department, including administrative tasks and assisting in lessons when required.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a lab environment, ideally within a school or educational setting.
- A good understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to support both staff and students.
- Science-related qualifications or background in a scientific discipline is desirable.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
