The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Transport Team as a Regional Transport Manager, reporting directly to the Head of Group Transport. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in developing, leading, and managing the Plant and Transport activities of the business.

Your primary focus will be on ensuring the highest levels of customer service while maintaining a safe, legal, ethical, and environmentally sound working environment. With a fleet of 150 vehicles, you will be responsible for approximately 30% of our network/fleet.

This is a remote position that requires frequent travel to branches around Surrey and Sussex (3 days a week) and occasional visits to our Head Office in Colney Heath. In 2025, this will change to 4 days in branches and 1 day at head office with the Transport Team.

Key Responsibilities

As a Regional Transport Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the Health & Safety of everyone who comes into contact with Lawsons is the foremost consideration in any decision-making process.
  • Being a strong advocate of Lawsons Mission and Values, reinforcing the company's ethos 'Family Values - Professional Service' throughout your team and the wider business.
  • Responsibility for compliance within your region with Company and Statutory requirements regarding operator licence, health & safety, service, quality, driver's hours, and tacho requirements.
  • Support with ongoing training programmes for new and existing drivers to ensure they operate safely, legally, and are great ambassadors for Lawsons.
  • Enforcing current legislation and keeping the business informed of upcoming changes.
  • Support in the management of procurement of plant, vehicles, and ancillary items, ensuring expenditure is controlled and within budget.
  • Monitoring driver behavior and proactively dealing with any adverse feedback to ensure Lawsons is regarded in a positive manner.
  • Striving to maximize fleet efficiency to maximize payload and reduce costs without compromising safety or service levels.
  • Continuously reviewing existing processes and exploring alternative solutions with the Transport Management Team.
  • Collating and analyzing data pertaining to all transport activities in your region.
  • Effectively communicating with the Transport Management Team to achieve business objectives.
  • Supporting the Transport Management Team with Improvement & Development projects.
Person Profile

  • CPC Holder.
  • A good geographical knowledge of distribution areas.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) at all levels.

  • Expert negotiating and influencing skills.
