Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at ASSYSTEM. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems and components for our clients in the nuclear sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design and develop mechanical systems and components, including mechanical handling equipment, using CAD software and other design tools.
  • Requirements Capture: Manage and challenge requirements for existing waste containers and interface equipment, ensuring that they meet the necessary standards and regulations.
  • Engineering Activities: Assist the Engineering Manager in defining product requirements, tolerances, and other engineering activities as required.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and assurance to Senior Engineers and Designers, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • Documentation: Compile and review technical documents, including component requirements documents and survey reports, to ensure that they are accurate and complete.
  • Site Surveys: Support site surveys and the production of survey reports, ensuring that they meet the necessary standards and regulations.
  • Failure Mode Effects Analysis: Assist in Design and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) to identify potential failures and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Drawing Review: Check technical drawings and documents for accuracy, ensuring that they meet the necessary standards and regulations.
  • Lessons Learned: Identify and apply Lessons Learned from Experience (LFE) for technical tasks, ensuring that best practices are implemented and shared within the team.
Qualifications
  • Experience: High-level technical competency and significant experience in a related field, preferably in the nuclear sector.
  • Education: HNC (minimum) in a relevant field, such as mechanical engineering.
  • Innovation: Ability to create and develop new ideas and solutions to complex engineering problems.
  • Project Documentation: Experience in preparing project documentation, processes, and reports, including technical drawings and documents.
  • Stakeholder Management: Demonstrable success in managing stakeholders, including clients, colleagues, and other external parties.
  • Drawing Standards: Strong understanding of BS8888 and ISO-GPS (ISO 8015) drawing standards.
  • Technical Drawings: Ability to check technical drawings per BS8888 and ISO 8015, ensuring that they meet the necessary standards and regulations.
  • Engineering Background: Deep experience in design, manufacture, material selection, welding, fabrication, and machining techniques.
  • FMEA Knowledge: Familiarity with DFMEA and PFMEA, including the ability to identify potential failures and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Information
  • Regulated Industries: Experienced in delivering work for highly regulated industries, including the nuclear sector.
  • Nuclear Sector: Experience in the nuclear sector, including design and development of mechanical systems and components.
  • Nuclear Design: Familiarity or previous design experience with nuclear, including mechanical handling equipment.
  • CAD Experience: Experience with CAD software, including Inventor.
  • Security Clearance: SC Clearance preferred or ability to obtain SC Clearance.
