We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Practitioner to join our team at The Hewitt Fertility Centre, Knutsford. As a Laboratory Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clinical embryologists and andrologists in the laboratory, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and treatment.
Main Responsibilities:- Provide technical support to the andrologists and embryologists in the laboratory, including semen analysis, semen preparations, and oocyte collections.
- Perform laboratory procedures, including IVF inseminations, and other procedures associated with therapeutic treatment provided by the Hewitt Fertility Centre.
- Participate in the treatment of patients with known high-risk diseases, such as Hepatitis B and C and HIV.
- Undertake the formal witnessing of procedures as required by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) to ensure the correct identification of patients, gametes, and fresh and frozen embryos.
- Assist with ensuring that the clean room laboratories are maintained to the highest degree of cleanliness and tidiness.
- Perform daily audits of equipment to ensure they are functioning correctly and within critical parameters.
- Assist with daily stock-monitoring and weekly stock and consumable checks within the Embryology Laboratory.
- Monitor and maintain the liquid nitrogen storage facilities, ensuring stored material integrity.
- Liaise directly and by telephone with the Clinical Embryologists, other members of the Hewitt Centre staff, and other hospital staff to ensure accurate and timely communication.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest possible standard of patient care.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in life sciences (or an equivalent qualification) from an EU University.
- Membership of the Association of Clinical Embryologists.
- Completion of theoretical and practical training modules in line with the HFC in-house training programme.
- Working within a laboratory environment.
- NHS experience.
- Experience within the field of assisted conception and reproductive medicine.
This is a two-year fixed-term position, and the successful candidate will be required to work across all Hewitt Fertility Centre sites, including Liverpool and Knutsford. The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.
