We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Shift Lead to join our team at Be Personnel Ltd. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our mechanical engineering shift.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading Sawmilling company in the UK, with a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. As a Mechanical Engineering Shift Lead, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our production units.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations and safe working practices, as detailed in risk assessments, methods statements, work instructions, permits to work, and guidance from management.
  • Maintain effective communication between team members, including staff, management, other supervisors, other shifts, and departments.
  • Effectively communicate with production staff to ensure breakdowns and maintenance are carried out and managed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Take responsibility for developing the skills of the team through skills charts, multi-skilling individuals, and setting up a training program.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Unit downtime reduction
  • Improved uptime performance of main production units
  • Zero Health & Safety team issues
  • Planned day/shift and weekend shift work program (for your team) emailed in advance to the engineering manager for approval
  • Identify training needs of team members and produce a training plan
Requirements
  • HNC/HND/C&G or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • Maintenance experience in hydraulic networks and pipework/hose assembly is preferable but not essential
  • Working on and repairing heavy-duty machinery
  • Ability to work safely, under pressure, in a production environment
  • Comfortable with e-maintenance systems
  • Computer proficiency

The successful candidate will be offered a salary based on experience, including a non-contributory life assurance and pension scheme.
