Data Quality Expert Job Description

The NHS is seeking a Data Quality Expert to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data recorded in hospital information systems. This role is responsible for designing and implementing checks on key hospital data, identifying issues, and ensuring satisfactory resolutions.

The successful candidate will have a high level of attention to detail, excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, and the ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of people. They will also have a working knowledge of NHS data and terminology.

Main Responsibilities
  1. To ensure Trust systems hold high-quality administrative and clinical patient data by running routine checks and reports to identify errors and inconsistencies and providing feedback on problem areas.
  2. To help identify where data quality improvements can be made, to contribute to a good information culture providing support to staff where required, and acting as an ambassador for high Data Quality standards in the Trust.
Key Skills and Qualifications
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Confident in the use of MS Office IT software
  • Good writing skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Quickly and expertly identify and investigate inconsistencies in data
  • Ability to communicate professionally with a range of people in person, on the telephone and in writing
  • Ability to explain complex problems simply
  • Demonstrable skills in managing and prioritising own workload
  • Ability to understand the needs of users and build good relationships with them
  • Good understanding of National data definitions and standards
  • Understanding of the needs for high-quality data
  • Understanding of the requirements for working with confidential data
  • Expert knowledge of the patient data collection process
