About the Role

The Senior Duty Manager is a key member of the Weald & Downland Living Museum team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the site. Reporting to the Head of Collections and Site Operations, this role works closely with the Duty Managers to ensure the smooth running of the museum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and motivate a team of Duty Managers to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain high standards of site operation.
  • Prepare and manage monthly rotas for Duty Managers, ensuring adequate coverage and minimizing disruptions.
  • Act as a point of contact for Duty Managers, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve site operations, including emergency evacuation procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct regular site walk rounds to monitor the quality of the visitor experience and identify areas for improvement.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies, making decisions as necessary to ensure the safety and security of staff, visitors, and the museum.
  • Collaborate with other departments to deliver key outputs, such as schools visits and museum events.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to the development of the museum's overall strategy.
Requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm and energy, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Good initiative and judgment, with the ability to problem-solve and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality customer care and experience, with experience in venue or duty management.
  • Direct experience in line management and staff supervision, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • An understanding of relevant health and safety areas, with the ability to take responsibility and action as needed.
  • A true team player, with a willingness to support other departments and contribute to the museum's overall success.

  • A competitive salary of £25,000-£26,000 per year.
