At Porterbrook, we're seeking a skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team as a technical expert. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on mechanical and powertrain systems, providing internal engineering consultancy, project partnering, and expert engineering advice to Fleet Services, Engineering Services, external stakeholders, and the wider business.

About the Role

We're looking for a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Systems Engineer who can act as Porterbrook's centre of expertise for Mechanical & Powertrain systems on traction & rolling-stock. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in remote condition monitoring systems, computer literacy, and knowledge of engineering change proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide internal engineering consultancy and project partnering support to Fleet Services, Engineering Services, and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a technical expert on mechanical and powertrain systems, leading or supporting investigations into equipment failures, warranty claims, and joint investigations.
  • Lead or support technical projects in support of wider business objectives, including fleet strategy and digital services.
  • Build relationships with existing suppliers and monitor the quality of products and engineering activities.

What You'll Need
  • A degree, HNC, or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or incorporated membership of the Engineering Institution or working towards this goal.
  • Experience in remote condition monitoring systems, computer literacy, and knowledge of engineering change proposals.

Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience). Bonus and benefits package included.
