Sustainability Performance Lead

This role supports client-facing consultancy services, including informal guidance and support for climate change, sustainability, and social value related activities on projects and programmes. You will be part of a team driving Mace's wider corporate ambitions and organisational objectives to reduce client carbon emissions and deliveries.
Your Key Responsibilities:- Supporting the development of client climate change, sustainability, and/or social value strategies on individual projects, including agreeing project outcomes and ensuring their delivery by the project team
- Becoming a technical expert and promoting innovation in a particular area of sustainability, such as waste, energy/carbon, water, responsible sourcing of materials, sustainable buildings, etc.
- Providing proactive generalist support covering all major issues of sustainability with all relevant stakeholders
- Supporting work winning through bid support, innovation, and client liaison
- Driving Mace to be a leader in climate change and sustainability
- Providing knowledge of sustainable building design, including embodied and operational carbon and energy reduction, in new build and refurbishment projects, including programme, cost, and operational impacts of NZC strategies
- Supporting design teams to understand and respond to environmental constraints and opportunities to maximise positive environmental benefits
- Developing innovation and best practice, including clearly communicating these to the wider business and our clients
- Translating best EMS practices from one area to another, simplifying reporting processes
- Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with clients and stakeholders, including design team members, contractors, sub-contractors, and regulators
- Collaborating towards net zero carbon transition, proactively identifying and managing associated carbon emissions and reductions during work delivery
- Expertise in one or more sustainability topics (waste, water, energy, carbon, responsible sourcing, building design, biodiversity, etc)
- Ability to translate technical topics into layperson's language and articulate the value of sustainability
- Championing sustainability, encouraging behavioural change throughout the business
- Industry expertise, sector knowledge, regional understanding
- Developing innovation and best practice, communicating these to the business and clients
- Translation of best EMS practices between areas, analysing reporting needs
- Positive stakeholder relationship management, conflict resolution
- Relevant tertiary qualification, postgraduate degree equivalent
- Suitable professional membership (IEMA, ICRS, CIEMA, ICE, RICS equivalent)
- Presentation skills, storytelling ability
- Critical thinking, problem-solving capabilities
- Programme design, engagement, and strategy
- Interpersonal skills, self-awareness, structured feedback
- Negotiation skills
- Master's degree equivalent
- Knowledge of NZC, Scope 1-3 emissions, TCFD/TNFD, LETI, RICS, standards and frameworks
