Job Overview

Black Country Job Support is seeking a skilled Mental Health Support Worker to join our Community Recovery Services team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health needs in the Dudley North area.

Main Duties

You will be responsible for working alongside Care Co-ordinators, other Support Time and Recovery Workers, and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide safe, sound, and supportive services to our service users. Your duties will include assessing mental health needs, implementing individual plans, and outcome measures for adults with mental health problems.

Person Specification

  • Good general education to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Evidence of training/development
  • Good IT skills
  • NVQ level 2, working towards NVQ level 3 equivalent
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to support service users with severe mental health needs to promote their own recovery
  • Ability to engage service users and work at a pace that will support their recovery in a community setting
  • Ability to provide practical support with activities of daily living essentials
  • A keenness to make a positive contribution and identify solutions to help empower service users
  • Working in partnership with other agencies
  • Ability to be proficient at planning and facilitating group work
  • Ability to take responsibility for own work planning
  • Working with and understanding of mental health illnesses and early warning signs of relapse
  • Understanding of risk assessment and risk management
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Clinical Governance issues
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative
  • Demonstrate professionalism, i.e., time-keeping, attitude, values
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to acknowledge diversity and promote anti-discriminatory practices and equal opportunities
  • Ability to respond in a professional manner to challenging behaviors
  • Ability to travel to numerous community settings around the Trust geographical area in a timely and effective manner
