About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects across various sectors, including education, commercial, industrial, residential, health, rail, and infrastructure, and energy and waste.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with design team members, contractors, clients, and stakeholders to ensure technical detailing is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Attend design, project progress, and client engagement meetings to ensure effective communication and project delivery.
  • Produce structural designs to relevant standards and European Codes, including preliminary design solutions and detailed designs, calculations, and specifications.
  • Manage projects to cost, programme, and sustainability criteria, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Supervise BIM technicians on technical and construction details, undertaking QA reviews to ensure high-quality output.
  • Mentor and assist junior staff, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Comply with designers' duties under the CDM Regulations, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Sell, market, and develop business opportunities with existing clients and identify new leads to drive business growth.
Requirements
  • Ambition, commitment, and integrity.
  • Minimum BSc/BEng in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 7 years of post-qualification experience in civil and structural engineering.
  • Chartered or near-chartered status with a relevant body (MICE or MIStructE).
  • Detailed knowledge of structural design and detailing using UK and European codes of practice.
  • Knowledge of BREEAM, sustainability objectives, and embodied carbon.
  • Good experience of structural analysis and design software.
  • Client-focused approach with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Confidence and ability in team and project management.
  • Ability to supervise and develop a team while working as part of a wider team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of own work and that of others.
  • Ability to take action and make decisions without close supervision.
  • Commercial ability.
  • UK driving license and own transport.
