Operations Director Job Description

Elevation Recruitment Group is seeking a seasoned Operations Director to lead our client's Herefordshire-based manufacturing plant. As a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the overall production operation and strategy to meet safety, quality, delivery performance, and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Excellence: Manage the day-to-day operation of the plant, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement a continuous improvement process to drive improvement in safety, product yield, cost of non-conformance, labor productivity, cycle time reduction, and cost reduction.
  • Engineering and Maintenance: Collaborate with the Engineering Director to assess and address engineering maintenance needs, ensuring a safe and continued operation of the plant.
  • Capital Planning: Plan and evaluate future capital needs, conducting market and technical analysis to justify requisitions.
  • Employee Engagement: Foster a motivated and rewarded workforce through effective training, competitive evaluation of wages/salaries, and incentives.
  • Financial Management: Ensure proper financial management through robust quality accounting controls and procedures, measuring attainment of committed financial targets.
  • Manufacturing Capability: Ensure the manufacturing capability is cost-effective and able to support customer needs.
  • Production Planning: Identify resources needed to meet present and foreseeable production demands, ensuring departments are appropriately staffed and capacity is available.
  • Quality Performance: Drive a quality-first, zero-defects mentality and culture within Operations, ensuring the company meets and exceeds customers' quality expectations.
  • OTIF Performance: Establish and implement necessary changes to constantly improve On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) performance to 95% plus levels.
Requirements:
  • BSc (Hons) or higher in a relevant subject (e.g., Engineering, Material Science, etc.).
  • Proven experience leading a large, complex manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within a Unionized environment.
  • Able to operate within a strategic leadership function.
  • Financial commercial acumen.
