Job Title: Video Imaging Specialist

West Midlands Police is seeking a skilled Video Imaging Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our forensic video recovery unit, you will play a critical role in providing a comprehensive video recovery and enhancement service to support investigations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Undertake the forensic recovery and analysis of digital video media from crime scenes, primarily in support of the Homicide investigation team.
  2. Liaise with Forensic Scene Investigators (FSI's) and Senior Investigating Officers (SIO) at crime scenes to ensure the recovery of CCTV imagery.
  3. Work closely with Police officers and investigation staff to maximize the forensic potential of evidence acquired from a range of video devices.
  4. Acquire, process, and analyze evidential video recordings from digital recording devices, including the creation of video compilations for court presentation and enhancement of video imagery to assist active investigations.
  5. Undertake video conversion work for the purpose of presenting evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and court.
  6. Provide guidance and training to WMP staff on the use of video viewing/enhancement systems.
  7. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department's Quality Management System (ISO 17025 / ISO) by engaging in audits, competency tests, Quality Control procedures, and suggesting improvements.
  8. Undertake research and development projects to identify new techniques and implement them within the Laboratory, staying up-to-date with the latest technological advances in imagery and digital forensics.
Requirements:
  1. Higher education degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject or 3 years of experience in a related field.
  2. Detailed knowledge of fundamental technical engineering principles behind digital video recording and video enhancement techniques.
  3. Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of forensic video techniques and their application, including methods of acquisition/recovery, conversion, production, still image production, and modification.
  4. Ability to communicate technical concepts and analysis to a non-technical audience.
  5. Proven experience in the use of computer software and hardware.
  6. Full UK driving licence.
