About the Role

The Heart of Newhaven Community is seeking a highly motivated and reliable individual to fill the position of Facilities Maintenance Officer. This role will play a crucial part in the upkeep, maintenance, and repairs of The Heart's buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Management: Ensure the safety and security of The Heart's buildings and grounds, including the upkeep and maintenance of facilities.
  • Building Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor joinery, plumbing, and maintenance tasks.
  • Event Management: Manage and organize the building for day-to-day use, as well as additional one-off and regular hires and events.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and procedures.
Requirements
  • Communication Skills: Good and clear level of communication with management, members of staff, members of the public, and tenants.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to carry out regular light physical tasks, such as moving chairs and tables.
  • Experience: Experience of facilities management and understanding of Health and Safety at Work legislation.
Desirable Qualities and Attributes
  • Organizational Skills: Organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Customer Service: Good communication skills including fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Self-Management: Ability to self-manage workload.
  • IT Skills: IT comprehension (eg. Microsoft office).
Working Arrangements

The role is based on-site at The Heart, and the successful candidate will be required to commute to this location. The role is part-time, with 16 hours per week, and some evening and/or weekend work will be required.

The Heart operates a Time Off in Lieu system for staff working overtime in accordance with Heart of Newhaven Community policy.

Annual Leave: 28 days including public holidays (i.e 126 hours p.a).
