About the Role

This exciting opportunity is available for registered adult nurses to complete an MSc in Midwifery at Sheffield Hallam University. The two-year funded course is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a registered midwife.

Key Responsibilities

As a midwife trainee, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist advice to women and families in relation to pregnancy, labour, postnatal period, and infant feeding.
  • Supporting women through the experience of childbirth, assisting them through unpredictable events during the course of labour.
  • Performing normal deliveries of babies and developing extended skills in episiotomy, perineal suturing, IV cannulation, and vaginal examination.
  • Being involved in dealing with emergency situations that occur, which can be life-threatening.
  • Competently caring for high-risk and dependency cases under direct supervision.
  • Interpreting CTG tracing and referring to more experienced staff where appropriate.
  • Undertaking initial examinations of the newborn under supervision.
  • Being involved in the initiation of neonatal resuscitation.
  • Attending theatre for caesarean sections and assisting appropriately.
  • Administering medicines safely in accordance with NMC guidelines and stage of training.
  • Acting as an advocate for women at all times.
  • Acting in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct (NMC).
