The Global Head of Restitution is a senior leadership role at Sotheby's, responsible for leading the worldwide team and maintaining a significant public profile as an ambassador for the company. This role requires a deep understanding of the complexities involved in the restitution of Nazi-era art and the ability to navigate the nuances of this field.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the Global Restitution department's research to prevent stolen objects from circulating in the art market and resolve provenance issues related to Nazi-era ownership claims.
- Provide guidance and training to art specialists and colleagues on policies surrounding stolen art and objects with Nazi-era provenance.
- Organize events and educational seminars to promote scholarship and understanding in the restitution field.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant lawyers, researchers, and government bodies.
- Publish articles in relevant magazines and establish expertise in the field.
- Work directly with clients and their advisors to navigate and resolve claims.
- Facilitate settlements between consignors and claimants and lead sale claims management.
- JD or international legal degree or qualification.
- Fluency in German, with working knowledge of French.
- Ability to travel internationally frequently.
