Transportation Support Assistant

The Education Authority seeks a reliable and caring Transportation Support Assistant to assist in the safe transport of children with special needs. This role requires a strong commitment to providing excellent support and ensuring the well-being of our students.
About the Role
As a Transportation Support Assistant, you will work under the direction of the driver to ensure the smooth operation of school bus services. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting children with mobility problems or severe/moderate learning difficulties during transportation, as well as maintaining a safe and comfortable environment on the vehicle.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist with the transport of children, including those with mobility issues or severe/moderate learning difficulties, to and from school or other authorized locations.
- Provide individualized support to children with specific medical conditions and ensure their physical and behavioral needs are met while on the vehicle.
- Operate tail lifts and ramps as required, check that wheelchairs are properly secured, and ensure harnesses are worn at all times when in transit.
- Act as a liaison between the school and parents, advising relief drivers about routes and familiarizing them with pupils' needs.
- Work collaboratively with the Education Authority to ensure compliance with relevant provisions, including the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments, and Regulations.
Benefits
