Job Overview

The Estates Department at University Hospitals Dorset provides a comprehensive maintenance, repair, and installation service for buildings, grounds, engineering services, and associated equipment throughout the Trust.

To be successful in this role, you must have served a recognised Electrical apprenticeship and gained a wide experience in building engineering services and plant maintenance with a BTEC HNC level or City and Guilds plus relevant post-apprenticeship training or equivalent experience.

You must hold a current UK driving licence and reside within half an hour's normal travel time to fulfill on-call duties.

The role is Monday to Friday with participation in an emergency on-call rota, plus opportunities for overtime and weekend working.

Salary: £29,000 - £36,000 per annum, plus local RRP (£3,000 per annum), with an approximate £1,000 per annum on-call retainer, overtime, 27 days' holiday, and voluntary pension scheme.

Person Specification

  • HNC in Building services plus specialist training and experience to graduate level, or equivalent gained through a relevant apprenticeship plus additional specialist knowledge and experience gained through specialist training, short courses, and C.P.D.
  • Authorised/Responsible and/or Competent Person in one or more of the following specialisms:
    • LV Electrical Systems
    • HV Electrical Systems
    • Heating and Ventilation Systems
    • Decontamination Safe Water Systems
    • Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)
    • Confined Spaces
  • Extensive knowledge of the electrical and/or mechanical and/or plumbing systems in NHS premises.
  • In-depth knowledge of all relevant legislation and technical guidance.
  • In-depth knowledge of all relevant Health Technical Memorandum's (HTM's).
  • Significant experience working in a complex engineering/building environment.

Technical Skills Competencies

  • Skilled in maintenance, fault finding, test & repair work on a very wide range of complex engineering services & equipment, with the ability to work unassisted in varying, often technical environments whilst complying with Health & Safety/ environmental regulations and standards.

Other Requirements Specific to the Role

  • Participate in outside of normal hours on-call rota.
  • Full U.K driving licence.

Language Requirement

  • Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role.
