Job Summary
CMS2, a leading manufacturer of specialized equipment for maritime atmosphere control systems and support services, is seeking an experienced Project Engineering Team Manager to lead the management and coordination of their Project Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Management team to ensure the technical and operational content of projects is delivered successfully against customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Report to the Project Management Director and provide regular updates on Project Engineering team activities.
- Direct support on major projects as part of an integrated or matrix team, with day-to-day reporting to the accountable Project Manager.
- Accountable for areas of Project Engineering and engineering administration responsibilities.
- Line manage, lead, and coach a team of Project Engineers and Engineering administrators.
- Work closely with the design department to deliver against customer requirements.
- Provide best practice consultation to the team, including methodologies for working through technical and operational challenges.
- Develop and implement training plans, performance reviews, and development for the Project Engineering team.
- Manage capacity and workloads to provide resources within a matrix or integrated project team.
- Provide support for projects in customer communications and tasks requiring more senior engagement, such as bids or quality escalations.
- Contribute to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility.
- Develop, govern, and maintain procedures, tools, and Project engineering work practices to provide consistency across the business.
- Support the roll-out of new business tools as required.
General Activities
- Carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
- Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
- Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
- Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
Requirements
- Degree and/or experience within a product development/engineering/production environment.
- Experience of working within a Project delivery team.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated, and able to work well under own initiative.
- Decision-making/problem-solving skills.
- Able to build long-term successful partnerships, both internally and externally.
- Strong customer management capabilities (internal and external).
- Able to negotiate and influence others.
- Capable of resolving escalated issues requiring cross-functional engagement.
- Strong presentation skills, confident speaker, and professionally presented.
- Previous experience of an ERP/MRP system.
Desirable
- Resource/department management experience.
- Good understanding of Project Management methodologies (Prince2, APMP, PMP).
- Previous experience of CAD systems.
- Knowledge of BS.8888 drawing practices.
- Experience within an engineering role.
- Experience of working within a Defence environment.
- Knowledge of ISO9001 or a similar QA system. Experience within a low volume, high value manufacturing environment.
Other Requirements
The duties of this appointment relate to the UK, and you may be required to travel when required by the Company. It is not envisaged that you shall be required to work outside the UK for more than one month.
Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
Candidates must be able to pass UK Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. This normally requires 5 years residence in the UK.
