SEN Support Assistant

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Assistant to join our team. This position is designed to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), who present with complex needs and challenging behaviour.

The successful candidate will provide individualized support, foster a positive learning environment, and promote the overall well-being of our students.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with teaching staff and SENCO to implement individualized education and behaviour plans for students with SEMH and complex needs.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students, adapting teaching materials and strategies to meet their specific learning styles and abilities.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies in collaboration with the school's behaviour policy.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a cohesive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress and strategies for continued support at home.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports for annual reviews and meetings with parents and external agencies.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role within a SEND school or similar setting.
  • Understanding of SEMH and other complex needs in children.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively manage challenging behaviour.
  • Patient and empathetic approach to working with children with diverse needs.

  • A competitive salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum.
Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special education are advantageous.

A driving licence is preferred.
