Research Associate in Planetary Science

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Manchester.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake research into heavy noble gas isotopic signatures in extraterrestrial samples. You will work under the direction of Prof. Jamie Gilmour and in collaboration with Prof. Rhian Jones and Dr Sarah Crowther.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research into heavy noble gas isotopic signatures in extraterrestrial samples using resonance ionization mass spectrometry.
  • Study the cosmic ray exposure history and the record of 129I and 244Pu in samples.
  • Collaborate with a leading research group of planetary scientists and isotope geochemists.
  • Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of extra-terrestrial materials.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Geology, Earth Sciences, Physics, Planetary Science or a related discipline.
  • A publication track record commensurate with your academic experience.
  • Experience of working in a research laboratory and of undertaking quantitative analyses of geological or extra-terrestrial samples.
